If there is one thing we all love about Classroom of the Elite, it’s the intense mind games. Regular high schools just give you boring math and science tests. But the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School is totally different. They test your ability to survive, lie, and outsmart your enemies through what they call Special Exams.
These tests are the absolute best parts of the story. If a student does well, their class gets points, and they get to live like kings. But if they fail? They get expelled and sent home forever. Because of these rules, the students are constantly betraying each other just to survive.
If you are trying to remember all the crazy tests Kiyotaka Ayanokoji and Class D have faced, you are in the right place. Grab a snack, because we are diving deep into every single Special Exam in the series so far!
Year 1 Special Exams
During their first year, Class D had absolutely no idea what they were doing. They thought this was a normal school, so they had to learn the harsh rules the hard way.
The Uninhabited Island Exam
This was the very first real test for our main characters. The school dropped the students on a completely deserted island for a whole week. Every class was given 300 points to buy survival gear like tents, food, and toilets. Whatever points they didn't spend would be added to their permanent class score!
The trick? Every class had to choose a secret "leader." If another class guessed who your leader was, you lost all your points. Class D almost fell apart because they didn't know how to survive in the wild. But behind the scenes, Ayanokoji pulled off a massive brain play. He secretly swapped the leader card from Horikita to himself at the last second, tricking all the other classes and securing a huge victory for Class D.
The Zodiac Exam (The Cruise Ship)
After the brutal island survival, the students thought they were getting a fun vacation on a luxury cruise ship. They were wrong. The next exam started immediately.
Students were mixed into small groups with their enemies and named after Zodiac signs (like the Rabbit Group). One person in each group was secretly chosen as the "VIP." The goal was a giant game of hide-and-seek.
You had to figure out who the VIP was in your group without letting anyone figure out who the VIP was in your own class. There were crazy rules about cell phones and texting, and Ayanokoji used a sneaky phone-swapping trick with Kei Karuizawa to completely outsmart the system.
The Sports Festival
This wasn't your normal, friendly school sports day. The school divided all the classes into a Red Team and a White Team. Classes had to team up with their worst enemies to win physical games like tug-of-war and relay races.
There was a lot of dirty fighting here. Kakeru Ryuen, the scary leader of Class C, completely targeted Suzune Horikita to break her down. He hired people to trip her and hurt her. The most legendary moment of this exam, though, was when Ayanokoji finally showed everyone how fast he really is. He ran a relay race against Horikita's older brother, Manabu, and shocked the entire school.
The Paper Shuffle Exam
This exam took a normal written test and added a wicked twist. First, every student had to pair up. If the pair’s combined score was too low, both partners were expelled immediately!
Second, the classes got to write the actual test questions for their enemies. If you made the questions too hard, the other class would fail.
This exam is famous because it is when Kikyo Kushida really showed her dark side. She made a secret deal with Ryuen to try and get Horikita expelled, but Ayanokoji was already three steps ahead of her.
The Mixed Training Camp
For this test, the school sent everyone to a freezing mountain camp. To make things worse, they separated the boys and girls, and forced students to sleep in the exact same rooms as their biggest rivals.
They had to work together in groups to do cleaning chores, running, and meditation. The scariest part was the penalty: the leader of the worst-performing group would be kicked out of school forever. Ayanokoji held back a lot during this exam, letting other people take the spotlight while he secretly managed things from the shadows.
The Class Vote Exam
This is easily one of the cruelest and saddest exams in the entire series. Without any warning, the school locked the doors and told every single class they had to vote someone out. There was no secret trick to save everyone. One friend from every class was going home.
Haruki Yamauchi, thinking he was being smart, worked with Sakayanagi from Class A to get Ayanokoji expelled. He convinced people to vote for our main character. But Ayanokoji and Horikita flipped the script on him. They exposed Yamauchi's betrayal to the class, and Yamauchi was the one who got expelled instead.
The Event Selection Exam
The big finale of Year 1! Classes got to choose 10 different games (like chess, typing, archery, or basketball) and challenged a rival class.
The coolest rule was the "Commander." One student from each class had to sit in a secret back room with a headset and a computer, guiding their classmates to victory. This led to an epic brain battle between Ayanokoji and Arisu Sakayanagi. Their final match came down to an intense game of chess.
Year 2 Special Exams
In Year 2, things get so much wilder. A brand new group of first-year students joins the school, and some of them are from the mysterious White Room, secretly trying to get Ayanokoji expelled. The rules get harder, and the danger is real.
The First-Year Partner Exam
Right at the start of the year, the second year students had to pick a brand new freshman to be their partner for a written test.
The scary part? If the freshman got a bad grade, the older student was the one who got expelled! This caused a massive panic. Students had to spend their private points to "buy" smart freshmen. This exam also features a crazy moment where a tough freshman named Hosen tries to stab Ayanokoji, but Ayanokoji just catches the knife with his bare hand!
The Second Island Exam
The school brought back the island survival test, but made it ten times bigger. It lasted two whole weeks on a giant island. Students were given GPS watches and had to run to different zones on the map before a timer ran out.
There were brutal physical fights in the woods, wild weather, and a massive hunt where multiple students tried to jump Ayanokoji all at once. The biggest surprise was Rokusuke Koenji, who basically ignored everyone, swung through the trees like Tarzan, and won the whole exam by himself!
The Unanimous Voting Exam
The class was locked in a room and given a list of extreme questions. They could not leave until 100% of the students voted for the exact same answer.
The final question was a nightmare: Would you expel a classmate to gain 100 class points? Time was running out, and Ayanokoji knew they needed the points. He used pure logic to corner the weakest student in the class, Airi Sakura. Even though she had a crush on him, she agreed to be expelled to save her friends. It was absolutely heartbreaking.
The Second Sports Festival
Unlike the first sports festival, this one was a totally free event. Students didn't have to play every single game. They could pick and choose the events they were best at to win the most points. This was a great time for characters like Sudo to shine and show off how much he had grown up since the first year.
The Cultural Festival
The school finally opened its doors to rich adult guests from the outside world. The classes had to set up fun businesses to see who could make the most money.
Class D decided to run a maid cafe! Of course, Ryuen from Class C tried to sabotage them by setting up a competing food stall right next door. It was a fun break from the usual life or death exams, but it still required a ton of planning and money management.
The School Trip Exam
The students took a beautiful trip to Hokkaido. But instead of relaxing with their best friends, the school forced them into small groups with their worst enemies.
Ayanokoji ended up in a group with Kikyo Kushida and Kakeru Ryuen! They had to spend the whole trip getting along, skiing, and doing simple tasks together without fighting. It was a great way to see characters who normally hate each other forced to hang out.
The End-of-Year Exam
The final boss battle of Year 2. The classes faced off in direct battles to see who would finally move up the ranks before entering their third and final year of high school. It was the ultimate test of everything they had learned over the last two years.
The result of the special exams sometimes students get penalty or even expulsions. Since till now few students from classroom of the elite expelled. And there you have it! Every single Special Exam in Classroom of the Elite explained.
