If you are a fan of Classroom of the Elite, you already know that the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School doesn't do normal summer vacations. Just when the students thought they were getting a relaxing break on a luxury cruise ship, the school dropped them onto a deserted island and started their very first Special Exam.
The Uninhabited Island Exam is incredibly important for the series. It is the first time we truly see the brutal nature of the school’s S-System. More importantly, it is the exact moment we all realized that Kiyotaka Ayanokoji isn't just a quiet, lazy high schooler. He is an absolute mastermind.
Let’s break down exactly how this exam worked, the crazy rules involved, and how Class D managed to pull off an impossible victory.
The Basic Rules
At first glance, the rules of the island exam seemed pretty simple. The students had to survive in the wild for one week (seven days).
To help them, the school gave each class 300 Special Points (S-Points). The students could use these points to buy anything they needed to survive: tents, clean water, toilets, food, and even barbecues.
Here was the catch: Any S-Points you didn't spend by the end of the week would be permanently added to your Class Points.
Since Class D had zero Class Points at the time, they desperately needed to save as many S-Points as possible. If they spent all 300 points on day one, they would go back to school with nothing. So, the ultimate goal was to endure the harsh outdoors, spend as little as possible, and save those points.
The Hidden Game: Spots and Secret Leaders
Of course, this is Classroom of the Elite. A simple camping trip wouldn't be enough. The school added a massive twist: The Secret Leader System.
Every class had to choose one student to be their "Leader." The school gave this Leader a special Key Card. Scattered around the island were different "Spots" (like a fresh river or a fruit tree). Every 8 hours, the Leader could swipe their Key Card at these spots to earn bonus points for their class.
But keeping the Leader safe was the real game. At the end of the 7-day exam, every class was allowed to guess who the Leaders of the other classes were.
- If you guessed right: Your class gained 50 points, and the class you guessed lost 50 points.
- If you guessed wrong: Your class lost 50 points as a penalty.
This turned a simple survival test into an intense game of spies and hide and seek. You had to hide your Leader while trying to figure out who the other Leaders were!
How The Four Classes Played the Game
It was fascinating to see how the different classes handled the exact same rules. Their strategies perfectly matched their personalities.
\- Class A: Led by the strict Katsuragi, Class A found a dark cave and blocked the entrance. They decided to spend absolutely zero points. They didn't buy a toilet or comfortable tents. They just locked themselves in the cave to make sure no one could see who their leader was.
- Class B: Led by the friendly Honami Ichinose, Class B found a beautiful spot near a waterfall. They all worked together perfectly. They spent just enough points to be comfortable and healthy, proving that perfect teamwork makes everything easier.
- Class C: Led by the ruthless Kakeru Ryuen, Class C did the unthinkable. On day one, they spent all 300 of their points! They bought a giant beach party, ate amazing food, and played in the ocean. When they ran out of points on day three, Ryuen just made his class quit the exam. But this was a trap! He secretly sent spies to infiltrate the other camps.
- Class D: Class D was a mess. They fought over buying a toilet, the girls and boys wouldn't stop arguing, and someone even stole Kei Karuizawa's underwear to cause panic. To make matters worse, Suzune Horikita, who was secretly chosen as their Leader was fighting a terrible fever.
The Spies and The Sabotage
Class C’s spy, Mio Ibuki, successfully infiltrated Class D's camp by pretending she had been bullied by Ryuen. Because Class D was too nice, they took her in.
Ibuki caused massive chaos. She was the one who stole the underwear to make the boys and girls hate each other. More importantly, she managed to steal Horikita's Key Card for a few seconds during a fight in the mud. She saw Horikita's name on it and immediately reported back to Ryuen: Suzune Horikita is the Leader of Class D.
By the final day, Class D was falling apart. Horikita was so sick she could barely stand, and the other classes were getting ready to guess her name and steal all of Class D's points.
Kiyotaka Ayanokoji’s 200 IQ Masterstroke
Just when it looked like Class D was going to lose everything, Kiyotaka Ayanokoji stepped in and completely broke the game.
Ayanokoji realized that Horikita was too sick to continue, so he forced her to retire from the exam. Because she retired, the school's rules had a hidden loophole: If a Leader retires due to a legitimate medical emergency, the class is allowed to choose a new Leader without a penalty.
Without telling anyone, Ayanokoji made himself the new Leader of Class D.
When the final guessing phase happened, Ryuen and Katsuragi both confidently guessed that Suzune Horikita was the leader of Class D. Because Ayanokoji had secretly swapped the roles at the very last second, their guesses were completely wrong! Both Class A and Class C lost 50 points for guessing incorrectly.
But Ayanokoji wasn't done. Throughout the week, he had been quietly watching everything. He noticed tiny details about how Class A and Class C operated. He correctly figured out the true identities of Class A and Class C's hidden leaders and guessed them perfectly.
The Final Results
Because Ayanokoji manipulated everyone, Class D shocked the entire school. They not only protected their own points by tricking the enemy, but they also stole points from the top classes.
Class D finished the exam in First Place with a massive 225 points!
The best part? Ayanokoji gave all the credit to Horikita. He let the whole school think she was the genius mastermind behind the victory, allowing him to stay safely in the shadows so he could continue controlling things from behind the scenes.
